Jesus Calling is our go-to devotional during breakfast. While the kids are eating, I read. My kids love it that Jesus "talks" to them in the morning before school. It strikes the perfect tone of hope, optimism, and comfort.

I read most of this with my 8 year old. Well she was 7 for most of it and she read it to me. It is a GREAT book for kids. Also I found alot of it speaking to me too! It's great for people just starting their walk in Faith, no matter what age.

This was the second time I read "Jesus Calling" as my daily devotional for a calendar year. The first time was in 2016, when I experienced the unexpected and tragic death of a loved one. I am unsure how I would have survived with my faith intact without this spiritually uplifting book.
As I prepared to reread it in 2020, I decided to use the Journaling format. Going into the unprecedented year of the pandemic, I had no idea what a blessing this devotional would be to me for a second time.
Journaling about my thoughts, fears, spiritual insights, and prayer requests during the days of sheltering-in-place became a daily encouragement. This discipline gave me a semblance of normalcy and routine at time when life was very unpredictable and abnormal. While losing my own father to this hideous virus in November of 2020, the "Jesus Calling" devotionals and accompanying Scriptures ministered to me in an almost prophetic way during that painful season.
If you have never read this incredible devotional, I highly recommend the Journaling format. In many ways, I feel it helped me to "keep the faith" once again in a year of tremendous uncertainty, grief, and spiritual challenge.

Jesus Calling, a 365-day Journaling Devotional, by Sarah Young, Thomas Nelson, 2010, Hardcover, 400 Pages, ISBN-13: 978-1404187856, $16.99

Sarah found truth and a greater intimacy with God while she studied with L’Abri, a Christian community in a “tiny” French village in the Alps. There, surrounded by God’s magnificent creation, Sarah opened “…her heart…” to her Lord and Creator in the “…panorama of unbroken beauty…” around her.

It was there she first uttered the words, “sweet Jesus,” an involuntary, personal response to the experience of what she came to call the “Presence of God.” In the coming years she learned the “…secret of the abiding presence…” and the blessings of …Full Review: http://tinyurl.com/6o47v6a

This is a daily devotional book. I read it daily and find great comfort in the words written and the bible references that back up the reading. The daily devotion helps me get off to a great start in recognizing the day and the good things to come from that day only, never fretting about yesterday, just learning and moving on. As for tomorrow? I may have dreams, biut they can only be realized if I do what is best today without worries, and work on tomorrow tomorrow.
The morning prayers are a great help to me and others may find comfort in them as well. I believe sample readings are available before purchase on Amazon.

This book literally changed my life. I can't recommend it highly enough. It took me quite a while to get used to the format, but the insights kept drawing me back and the beauty. Oh, the beauty.

*I have not actually used this. It is my take on the devotional based on my experience with the adult version and flipping through this version.

I have begun each morning for the past four years with the original adult version of Jesus Calling. Every morning it is exactly what I need to hear and centers me for the day ahead. I was delighted to discover Sarah Young had published a version for young believers. Each day focuses on a single Bible verse. A short “letter” of encouragement follows, often along with a prayer for the day. There is also the opportunity to read through the entire Bible in one year by following the suggested reading format given each day. This treasure would make an ideal gift for grads or those celebrating a First Communion.

I've always had a hard time doing the whole "family devotional" thing. It's not that I'm against it, it's just hard to find something that gets it and isn't goofy and just lets me engage my kids. Sarah Young's book "Jesus Calling" is a devotional that many in my church read already, and when I saw that there was a kids version I wanted to check it out. It's been fantastic! My children are really appreciating the daily letter from Jesus and their short enough that we can do them right before we jump on the bus for school. I highly recommend this book to tired, worn out parents, who are just trying to help their kids focus and know they're loved each morning!

We have a 15-minute drive to school every morning, so I have my 8 and 11-year-old boys take turns reading these devotionals each day. Such great messages written at their level and a wonderful way to start our days, especially if they started off bumpy. Sets a positive tone for all of us and feeds them spiritually.

This is the first time I've read a daily devotional from January 1 to December 31. Jesus Calling was a relatively easy, encouraging read, and it positively impacted my daily walk with Jesus.

I have been reading this devotional for about a year now. I've missed a few days here and there, but I've really enjoyed what I have read. I haven't really taken advantage of the journaling aspect of the book, but I don't typically write in books and this one was on loan to me from a friend. (I've since learned that she gave it to me, so YAY!) I think the first person pov is unique. It's as if God is speaking to you directly, and the short devotionals feel personal every time. I like this devotional for a quick read in the morning with whatever I'm currently reading in my Bible. It's short enough that I can still take time to read it when I'm in a hurry, but still packs a powerful enough punch that it sets my mornings right. I would recommend it to others. I'll probably keep it around for another year to get the days I missed and then come back to it again in a few years. Well-worth having on my shelf.

After searching long and hard for a 365 daily devotional for kids, this was the best choice I found. The book is beautifully written, connecting excerpts from the bible with real life struggles children could relate to. I read this to my children before bed and they would always ask me to read more so we read it all in just a few weeks. I would recommend this book to any family wanting to reinforce faith/spirituality. This book would also be an excellent choice for teachers in private schools (catholic, Lutheran, etc) where talk about religion is allowed, perhaps as a starter during your morning meeting or as a way to end their day.

This is a very dangerous book that portrays Jesus as a needy, whiny God just waiting for us in a romantic and vapid mode. It prey's on women's emotion of need and self worth.

And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." (Acts 2:42) This is how you get a close relationship to God, prayer and reading God's Word, the Bible!

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

I bought this book for my daughter because I love Jesus Calling written for adults. This is a great devotion book for kids but I would recommend a parent reading/discussing a few to check for understanding. I bought this for my daughter in 3rd grade and we read many together. She is in 5th grade now and reads it on her own a few times a week and has a true understanding of the writer's message.

My 7 yr old daughter got this book as a gift and it's perfect for her! I love that it gives a daily scripture, has a short devotional as if Jesus were speaking directly to her, and then gives a couple of follow-up scriptures for her to read on her own throughout the day. A great way to encourage her to read and explore more on her own!

This is a daily devotional journal which I will add to every year's reading challenge. The ability to journal our spiritual journey is the key to learning how God works in our lives. These daily bits of scripture-based wisdom & encouragement are timely and accurate every time I read them! The scriptures are a living body of works that are rooted in the Holy Spirit. They are always relevant.

This daily devotional book was given to me as a Door Prize at a ladies group meeting in March. I'm ministered to every time I read a day's reading. Love it and definitely recommend it to everyone, no exception....

This is a daily devotional written as God speaking with you daily. As I kept my daily private time with my Father, I found each day's topic encouraging and timely. God inspired is how I label Sarah Young's work. This book is definitely a lifetime treasure. Those I've gifted it to have agreed.

A wonderful way to start my day for a year, in fact, I like it so much, I'm going to do it again. Making the morning commitment using a combination of devotion, Bible passage and journaling changes the way I approach my day.

I got this book as a gift. I read it the whole year! I got it right before I got Confirmed. This book, although targeted for kids, is a great read for any age. The topics are simple yet very meaningful. Great devotional to sit back and look at your life. I highly recommend!

Very helpful and accurate in it's spiritual guidance and it's accuracy in depicting daily events and situations. It advises well on how to handle these things by allowing God, through your personal relationship with Him, deal with them in own His Own Way, Time and Strength...
